EE7: CIRCUIT– derek beaulieu

From the author: All of the visual poems in “Circuit” were created using a single sheet of Letraset; every poem contains characters on that sheet and nothing else. The vocabulary of the suite was limited to that single sheet and as I created each poem I constantly further constrained the available diction I had available to me for further pieces — until, eventually, I had used all available, usable characters from that single sheet; an ever-reducing constraint. Each letter was placed one at a time, delicately balancing this notoriously finicky medium into a series of gears and wheels. “Circuit” belies semantic meaning in favour of grace, metricality, delicacy, and symmetry, applying the standards of lyricism to concretism.
